18 Feb 5 Tips For Packing a Storage Unit Like a Pro
Are you moving and need to store some of your belongings? Or maybe you’re just looking for a way to declutter your home? A storage unit can be a great solution but packing it up efficiently can be tricky. In this blog post, we will discuss five tips for packing a storage unit like a pro!
Tip #1 – Create a List
The first thing you need to do is create a list of what items are going into your storage space. This should include furniture and boxes, but also maintain an inventory on smaller items such as clothes hangers or lamps so that they don’t get lost among all the other stuff! If possible, take pictures too so you have a visual of what everything looks like. If pictures are not an option, label each box with as much detail as possible. Creating a plan or outline for your storage unit will be the key to success. Make sure you know what items are going into your storage unit and create an outline of how they will fit together in the space. This way, you’ll always have access to everything without having boxes piled on top of each other and blocking entryways or walkways inside of your unit.
Tip #2 – Boxes Galore
Once you know what’s going in, it’s time to start packing! One way to make sure everything is secure is to use packing tape on all four sides of the boxes. This will help keep the boxes together and prevent them from falling apart during transport. When packing furniture, remember that heavier items should go on the bottom and lighter things at the top so there’s no risk of tipping over.
Tip #3 – Pick a Unit
The next step is deciding what storage unit to rent. The best place to choose would be somewhere with easy access for you as well as plenty of room to move bigger items. You’ll also want the storage unit near you so you can easily access it, but far away enough from your home that you’re not tempted to store everything in your house instead!
Tip #4 – Get some friends
Once you have all of your belongings packed and ready to go, it’s time for transportation! Make sure you have plenty of help and that everything is labeled correctly. It can be helpful to create an assembly line with different people responsible for different tasks such as: carrying boxes, loading furniture, and unloading at the other end. If you’re using a moving company, be sure to schedule in advance and ask any questions you may have about their process.
Tip #5 – Organize, Label, Organize
Last but not least, take some time to organize the inside of your storage unit. One way to do this is by using labeled plastic bins which can be easily moved around or stacked on top of each other. If you followed the outline that was created in the previous step, then your unit will be nicely organized. If you altered the outline, be sure to mark down those alterations for accuracy. This will help make finding what you need much easier and can prevent boxes from being misplaced.
Now that you have all these packing tips, it’s time to get started! With a bit of organization and planning, your storage unit can be packed up like a pro in no time. Happy packing!
